The Mysterious Feminine World of Anna Rita Alatan

Anna Rita Alatan's artistic themes center on a feminine world that embraces dreams, desires, and all the magic and suffering in life. Through images, appealing and sensual, the artist reveals intense emotions, transfigures reality and memory and lets us take part in the deepest of passions that her women, distant and unreacheable, enveloped in the unique atmosphere, silently evoke with expressive and effective power.

Bodies are in the forefront with their incisive and malleable lines, but Anna Rita explores deeper, into their souls and all their existential issues that, one surmises, never wander far from a deep desire for love. It is a universe of dynamic figures, surreal and yet all the same real, who are captured in moments of abandonment, prayer, dance, and suffering. The expressive intensity of the subtly erotic language leaves an impression; symbolism integrates with color and melds with thought, displaying a fascinating itinerary of the psyche that transmits pathos with colors ranging from sky blue to pink and violet, from white to black and gray, then suddenly changing the palette from cold and leaden tones to warm colors and then to delicate pastels that flood the images with a timeless light, mysterious and impenetrable, to show not the stillness nor emptiness of emotions, but their tumultuous quality. In a few works, huge, red, carnal, splayed flowers throbe and expand almost like tentacles wrapping themeselves around bodies. They indicate a surprising force of communication of profound meaning. A bowl, a shifted veil, a red moon, an alley way glowing from the moonlight, a dance, the memory of a night in the East, the magic of music - all are a means to voyage across her personal palette, to take some a step away from the complicated reality of life and from human sensuality, and to reach the paths of the soul with tones of high spirituality.

Theese feminine images strive to find a true identity, the knowledge of their "ego". The sinuous bodies show many facets and communicate thousand of emotions. Beautiful enigmatic faces highlight interior projections not only telling just a single story, but an infinite of stories of eastern and western women traveling along a path that belongs to the universal, a flashback to our days where we had no choice but to wear impenetrable masks to hide our frailty, disappointments, and suffering, in order to survive. This message is strong. It induces deep meditation, alternating memory with fantasy, light with shadow, and goes hand in hand with the idea of love that emanates from the charming creatures that Anna Rita Alatan has adorned with poetry. "In your body and soul," - Antonio De Marco sings in a few verses of poetry - "I annual my own/ for an eternal ecstasy. And the vision that makes me paint/ A solitary diamond/ That ignites and makes my colors shimmer even in the setting of the evening sun!"
